Kitsap
Applied Technologies (KAT) is a private Non-Profit Organization that serves
individuals with developmental disabilities from throughout Kitsap County.
Incorporated in 1984, KAT is governed by a Board of Directors who set the
policies, monitor the finances, and develop both short and long term goals for
the agency. They also hire and evaluate an Executive Director who runs the day
to day operations of the agency following the policies and goals that have been
set. The Board of Directors meet monthly. KAT is designated as a 501c-3
organization by the Internal Revenue Service and is also recognized by the
Secretary of State of Washington and the Charities Division of Washington State.
KAT currently employs twenty-three staff and provides services to over eighty
individuals.
KAT
gets most of its referrals from the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and the
Frances Haddon Morgan Center (FHMC). We also accept referrals from school districts and private
parties on a limited basis. Eighty-two of the individuals we currently serve
were referred to us by DDD and FHMC. Most of those individuals have disabilities
in the severe to profound range and many have come to us from institutions. We
specialize in serving individuals with profound disabilities such as autism and
those who are considered to have “duel disabilities” (individuals who have
downs syndrome and a physical disability, or autism and visual impairments for
example). Most of the individuals we serve have historically been excluded from
many services as they were labeled as “too disabled” to benefit from such
services. This short-sighted thinking has proven to be completely false. Click here to view a current KAT Brochure in an Adobe PDF form |
